A player that is on your minor league roster can be released at any time with no cap hit. If he is a member of either of your franchises he remains your teams property. If he has less than 150 abs or 50 innings pitched he returns to the team that holds the rights to him. (example Dbacks receive Joe Smith in a trade from the Reds and place him om their minor league roster, later he decides that he needs to clear room on his minor league roster and releases him, he goes back to the Reds.) If he has reached the league minimum 1 at bat or 1 inning pitched then he is released to the free agent pool.
