During regular season play, any minor league player that has 0.1 innings pitched or 1 AB can be promoted to the 40 man roster. However their has to be an open slot for that player. If you have another player currently on the 40 man roster who has less than 50 innings pitched, or 150 AB at the time of promotion they can be moved to the minor league roster. If no players are eligible to be sent to the minor leagues, then a major league player has to be released, and the owner will be responsible for 1/2 of the dropped players salary for the remainder of the contract.
